If you have a gambling addiction I imagine that you are feeling scared and confused. Your thoughts are probably racing and emotionally you feel destabilised. Rationally, you know you need to stop gambling but are struggling with feelings and cravings that pull you to gamble again. You no longer recognise yourself.
Please don't lose heart. I believe that I can help you. Years of experience have taught me what really does help women to stop gambling. 96% of women I work with successfully stop gambling and remain free from gambling after ending their work with me. I know, because lots of them stay in touch with me. Years after they left counselling, they still let me know how their lives are going.
My aim is always to help you not just to stop gambling, but to live a happier and healthier life than ever before. Once you have broken the habit, we find together aspects of yourself that got buried under the mess of gambling. I help you to understand yourself better. I guide, advise and support, while you to create a life that feels more truly one that is right for you. Wisdom from experience!
I was a UK pioneer in treating gambling addiction in women. Listening to my clients, I heard that gambling addiction in women was very different to gambling addiction in men. In 2006, I established the very first UK women's weekly gambling addiction recovery group. I developed treatment methods based on what I learnt. I found ways to help the women go beyond using willpower alone to stop gambling. They stopped gambling because they just didn't want or need to gamble anymore.
The causes - and consequences - of addiction in women are intolerable levels of stress, depression and anxiety. These are triggered by feeling mentally and emotionally overwhelmed by life experiences: particulary those connected to relationships with family, partners and the workplace.
I wrote an affordable self help book for those who might not be able to work with me.
'Gambling Addiction in Women: Four Weeks to Freedom: A Practical Guide to Recovery' is available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle. This short, easy read is a great way of getting started on recovery by yourself.
